Stopford Workshop Ltd, ‘spins out’ from University of Manchester

With huge demand for space in the University of Manchester Medical School and pressure to cut costs the Medical Faculty decided to close its workshop facilities. After months of negotiation and with a good deal of help from the University of Manchester Incubator Company (UMIC) the entire contents of the Mechanical and Electronic workshops were transferred to Broadstone Mill business incubation site just South of Manchester.

A select team of mechanical and electronic engineers including former colleagues joined Barry bringing over 100 years of knowledge and experience in designing and building scientific prototypes. Occupying around 2000 sq ft of well equipped space SWL were poised to offer continued technology support to the University on a commercial basis as well as supporting independent innovators across the region.
