Stopford Workshop Ltd moves to Stockport College Campus

Stockport College Campus

Stockport College LogoAfter a two year incubation period at Broadstone Mill, in January 2010 we moved to Stockport College Town Centre Campus. With our strong background in academic research and teaching support the move back to an educational campus seemed natural. Although relocating over 2000 sq ft of technology workshops posed a significant challenge, the warm welcome and support from the college helped significantly.

The college has a brand new training centre for engineering and technical students in the Sir Joseph Whitworth Building presenting a valuable resource of candidates for expanding our team via work placements and apprenticeships and with the wealth of experience held by the college staff there is a huge opportunity to develop the educational content of some of our research projects.

We look forward to forging links with the college and developing our business from the campus.

Stopford Workshop Ltd, ‘spins out’ from University of Manchester

With huge demand for space in the University of Manchester Medical School and pressure to cut costs the Medical Faculty decided to close its workshop facilities. After months of negotiation and with a good deal of help from the University of Manchester Incubator Company (UMIC) the entire contents of the Mechanical and Electronic workshops were transferred to Broadstone Mill business incubation site just South of Manchester.

Broadstone Mill

A select team of mechanical and electronic engineers including former colleagues joined Barry bringing over 100 years of knowledge and experience in designing and building scientific prototypes. Occupying around 2000 sq ft of well equipped space SWL were poised to offer continued technology support to the University on a commercial basis as well as supporting independent innovators across the region.
